B D0001670-0B Jumper Setting ============== Setting the Drive Number ------------------------ This HDD can be used independently or with another HDD in a daisy- chain configuration. Set the drive number according to usage. The following two procedures can be performed: A: Attach strape S1 and S2 to the docking bay PC board. B: Execute the DOS "SDCONFIG.EXE" utility. If Procedure-A is performed, execute "SDCONFIG.EXE" beforehand, and set "Drive Select" to CSEL. The factory-preset is CSEL, so unless "Drive Select" has been changed, it is not necessary to reset it. Perform Procedure-B in the following manner: 1. When one HDD is to be used, a) Connect the drive to the host system b) Boot DOS from the floppy disk c) Execute "SDCONFIG.EXE" to set "Drive Select" to MASTER. 2. When two HDDs are to be used, a) Connect only the target master drive to the host system b) Boot DOS from the floppy disk c) Execute "SDCONFIG.EXE" to set the HDD to MASTER d) Switch off the power, and remove the drive e) Connect only the target slave drive to the host system f) Boot DOS fom the floppy disk g) Execute "SDCONFIG.EXE" to set "Drive Select" to SLAVE h) Switch off the power, and connect both drives in a daisy-chain configuration i) Boot DOS from the floppy disk j) Execute "SDCONFIG.EXE" to confirm the presense of Drive 0 and Slave Drive Interface Signals ----------------- -SLV/ACT PIN 50 -PDIAG PIN 48 -CS0 PIN 25 -CS1 PIN 49 +12VDC PIN 14/37 +5VDC PIN 15/36 -SLV/ACT: INPUT/OUTPUT SIGNAL (LOW-LEVEL TRUE) ---------------------------------------------- This signal has the following two functions depending on the drive number (0 or 1) of the HDD. a) Drive 0: This signal becomes the input signal at self-diagnosis; if it is TRUE, it recognizes the presence of the slave drive. This signal becomes the output signal in cases other than self-diagnosis and changes to TRUE only during the execution of commands. b) Drive 1: This signal becomes the -SLAVE PRESENT signal. It stays TRUE after the system is energized until either drive (0 or 1) is accessed. After that, it changes to TRUE during the execution of commands. The output of this signal is an open collector of the NPN transistor, allowing it to directly drive an external LED. The current-limiting resistor for the LED is not incorporated. -PDIAG: Input/Ouput sinal (low-level TRUE) ------------------------------------------ This signal is switches between input and output depending on the drive number (0 or 1). a) Drive 0: This signal becomes the input signal. If two HDDs are connected in daisy-chain, this signal is an input signal that is used to receive the execution result of the DIAGNOSE command for the slave drive. b) Drive 1: This signal becomes the output signal. If two HDDs are connected in daisy-chain, this signal is an output signal that is used to inform the master drive of the execution result of the DIAGNOSE command. If, after execution of the DIAGNOSE command, there is no abnormality, this signal changes to TRUE. -CS0/-CS1 INPUT Signals (true at low level) ------------------------------------------- Address lines used to select the interface register of the HDD. The address lines of the host system bus are decoded to be connected to them. ********************************************************************** I N S T A L L ********************************************************************** TEAC SD-3540N-30 HDD SPECIFICATION REV. B D0001670-0B Notes On Installation ===================== Mounting Orientation -------------------- Any orientation. Mounting method --------------- The HDD is fixed with screws through the mounting holes at the sides and top. Cooling system -------------- Natural air ventilation Cable Connections ----------------- The HDD has only the J1 connector (50 pins) for the IDE interface and power. Connector --------- HDD side connector: KEL8821-050-170SD-27 or equivalent Cable side adaptable connector: KEL8802-050-170L or equivalent (Right angle PCB mounting) KEL8802E(R)-050-175 or equivalent (Flat cable) Cable ----- Recommended cable: AWG28 flat cable Cable length: 60cm (2ft) or less Electrical Interface -------------------- The following specifications apply to the interface signals on the connector J1. The input signal mentioned below means the signal applied to the HDD, and the output signal means the signal output from the HDD. Input signal Receiver : CMOS receiver with hysteresis Input signal level High to low level : 0.9 1.5V (excluding RESET signal) 1.0 1.6V (RESET signal) Low to high level : 1.5 2.1V (excluding RESET signal) 2.0 2.6V (RESET signal) Leakage current : 10 A Hysteresis width : 1V Output signal Driver : CMOS tri-state driver (excluding -SLV/ACT signal) Open collector driver (-SLV/ACT signal) Output signal level Low level : 0.5V or less High level : 2.4V or more Cautions in installation ------------------------ a) The mounting cabinet for the HDD should be constructed so that no distortion may be produced in the chassis. b) Penetration of any screw into the drive must not exceed 2.3mm for the side mounting screw holes. The top mounting screws must not exceed 2.8mm. ********************************************************************** F E A T U R E S ********************************************************************** TEAC SD-3540N-30 HARD DRIVE SPECIFICATION D0001670-0B REV. B Power Requirements ------------------ The power supplies of this HDD come in two modes: for use with both 5V and 12V, and for use with 5V only. The HDD itself determines whether 12V power is supplied. When used to drive the head actuator (voice coil motor), the 12V power supply is used. Otherwise the 5V power supply is used. Seek-speed will be faster with 12V than when only 5V power is fed.
